Go Read Theory was born out of sleepy Cape Coral, a town known more for its retirees than its surprisingly rich music scene. This unholy amalgamation of modern skate, old school, and folk punk focuses heavily on socio-political themes. Drugs, poverty, anarchy, and crime are at the center of every song.
Skylar Brenton, vocalist and guitar player, began working on the project that would become Go Read Theory while serving time in jail. His lyrics are often based on stories from his own experiences hitchhiking, doing drugs, and breaking the law. His struggles with addiction, and radical political beliefs, are a major influence in his song writing.
He was later joined by bassist and backing singer Brendan DuBois and drummer Michael Bowman, both of which have been involved in numerous projects across their shared music scene.
Rounding out with the addition of DuBois’ perfect pitch and booming basslines and Bowman’s driving drumtracks and PBR crushing, the trio writes music that is both fun and emotional.
